I am aware of Awe.sm service but I'm cheap :) and also want to install the script on my own server. I tried a WP plugin but it didn't work and it seems to be only a plugin to WP rather than an independent one.

If you use ruby, you can use vurlify. Veez, the guy who wrote it, is a pretty stand-up guy working at Hashrocket's Chicago office.

Stats are great. You can see Google Analytics-like demo data.
