We're big fans of Peldi and heavily used Balsamiq Mockups to design our site. </p> <p>Anyways, we just launched our 1st ecommerce site. We're an older manufacturing company that's never been on the web. We're trying to learn as fast as possible so feedback is much appreciated.</p> <p>We have our own list of weaknesses that we want to fix. I'm curious if you agree or can identify others. </p> <p>Our list of weaknesses:</p> <ol> <li>We don't show enough example images of prior orders</li> <li>We don't allow guest checkout</li> <li>We don't support international shipping</li> <li>We have a proof approval process, where you don't pay until you approve a proof. But this is not at all obvious. </li> <li>We don't show pricing until you click-thru to a product page. </li> </ol> <p>We also require a customer to upload artwork before they can complete their order. <p>I'm working with an author on his website and social media marketing strategy. We're looking to focus on blogging, a facebook fan page, and twitter to really build and interact with his tribe.</p> <p>At the moment, we're not using an email newsletter or subscription. There's plenty to work on with the other platforms and email marketing is a big commitment. Is it a mistake not to be using an opt-in email form? </p> <p>The author is well known now, and we expect a large following through Twitter and Facebook. His book will be coming out in about a year and a half. We don't want to commit to sending monthly emails between now and then. But I do feel we may be making a mistake by not collecting emails. </p> <p>Does anyone have any experience with email conversions vs social media conversions? Even if we do collect emails, we aren't going to send off a stream of "sales-y" emails when the book comes out. But it would be another line of contact to let his followers know there's a new book out.</p>

<p>I am currently in the middle of a dilemma. I am a 21 year old entrepreneur at heart, but an employee in the corporate world. I dream of becoming my own boss, starting a company from scratch, building an empire and one day being interviewed by you.  My dilemma is, I have numerous ideas for businesses, but can never seem to execute them properly or the market is simply just too saturated in that particular field/industry.  This is the only thing that is holding me back from quitting corporate America and joining the entrepreneur side.  I am now up for a promotion at work, at which point I will succumb to 70 hours a week for at best, $100k per year. Giving in to this promotion will greatly limit my time and abilities to become what I really want in life. However, if I do not take this promotion, chances are I will be seen as "someone who doesn't want to grow with the company" and will either be forced to leave or worse, terminated. I cannot afford the latter, but am having a hard time coming to terms with a job that is simply a means to an end, not my calling.  I am curious what your advice would be for someone like me.   What would you tell someone who has the entrepreneur heart/spirit/drive, but have not yet found your calling to pour everything into?  And how about if your back is up against the wall, like in my situation?
